A Beautiful Heritage

A Beautiful Heritage

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. Psalm 16:6

Today, I’m introducing A Beautiful Heritage. It is a memoir describing our pro-life journey—embracing the precious little ones the Lord gave us and leaning into the abundant life Jesus offers.

Sometimes a first dream doesn’t exclude a later accomplishment.

Mothering has always been my best, first dream.

But sometime in my late childhood, I decided it would be “cool” to write a book. I loved the idea, but thought I didn't have what it would take because real authors couldn’t NOT WRITE. Certainly, there was a lot of not writing in my life. Even at that early stage, I knew writing wasn’t easy. I just didn’t realize that writing requires diligent work that doesn’t depend on some magical talent or how compelled one feels to put pen to paper.

It’s not inherent ability. It’s simply acquiring the skill as well as putting in the time for draft after draft.

Finally, after three and a half long years, I had a hard copy of the book in my hands.

Later in adulthood, the Lord seemed to be nudging me to tell our story—to showcase the ways in which He had led and provided and blessed our family.

Life was hectic, but through the years I jotted down ideas and even completed several whole chapters. But the time wasn’t right. I still had more of the story to “live” before I could pass it on.

Eventually, it was time and the Lord sent the help I needed. I joined an online writing mastermind and learned to communicate more effectively. I wrote and re-wrote (none of my previous writing made the cut) and despaired of ever finishing. Multiple edits, cover art, and formatting followed.

Finally, after three and a half long years, I had a hard copy of the book in my hands. That was March 2023—almost a year and a half ago. Why am I just now announcing this? When I finished the book I decided I wouldn’t write anything for a very long time. The break has been glorious!

O Taste and see that the LORD is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8

Today, I’m introducing A Beautiful Heritage. It is a memoir describing our pro-life journey—embracing the precious little ones the Lord gave us and leaning into the abundant life Jesus offers. A Beautiful Heritage is the testimony of God’s tender faithfulness to our family. Even though our story has its own unique flavor, the timeless challenges of following the Lord by faith apply to all of us who dare to “taste and see that the LORD is good” (Ps.34:8).

This book has truly been a work of love and worship made possible by God’s gracious hand of provision. I hope it encourages you.

The lovely pictures were taken by my wonderful daughter-in-law. Thanks Sarah!
